Mamavation Sent Seed to the Laboratory to Test for Contaminants
Mamavation has been scrutinizing and testing Seed DS-01 since 2018. This year, we were not able to budget much for a comprehensive probiotic investigation with dozens of products, but we did want to make sure we sent the same probiotic from our last probiotic investigation to the laboratory for a series of tests.
So, Mamavation sent the Seed DS-01 to an EPA-certified laboratory for testing for contaminants. We tested for four types of heavy metals: lead, cadmium, arsenic, & mercury. We also tested for indications of PFAS “forever chemicals,” glyphosate, AMPA, and phthalates. The results were very positive.
Lab Results of Seed Daily Synbiotic DS-01
Here are the total results we got from the lab, along with some context we have provided below.

- Phthalates: 242 ppb total phthalate (Context: this is lower than the lowest of women’s multivitamins)
- Lead: 0.01 mcg/serving (No prop. 65 warning needed)
- Cadmium: 0.01 mcg/serving (No Prop. 65 warning needed)
- Arsenic: 0.03 mcg/serving (No Prop. 65 warning needed)
- Mercury: Non-detect
Seed DS-01 has been one of the cleanest supplements Mamavation has independently tested. According to the laboratory, no glyphosate, AMPA, 300+ additional pesticides, specific PFAS “forever chemicals,” or organic fluorine (indications of PFAS “forever chemicals”) were detected.
One quick note on phthalates: Mamavation has found phthalates in almost every supplement we have tested, including those we have not yet been able to publish yet. (More supplement consumer studies are coming!) Therefore, we know what lower phthalates look like in the supplement industry right now. We found low levels of phthalates in Seed DS-01. However, note that they were lower than the lowest of women’s multivitamins. Therefore, they would be slotted in our “best” category. We do have one caveat. The only place Mamavation has found non-detect phthalate results in supplements is with some “gummies” and “chews” in children’s multivitamins, but we have not found this to be the case with solid supplements. All solid supplements tested have had phthalate detections thus far. (Including supplements in upcoming consumer studies.) Shining a light on this, with the help of consumers, can only make it better.
The four basic heavy metals our lab tested for were lead, cadmium, arsenic, & mercury. All detections were far below Prop. 65 warning levels. Therefore, Seed DS-01 would not require any warnings regarding heavy metals, according to the State of California, which has the strictest lead restrictions in the country.
